11:08hrs The team were contacted by Ambulance control and asked to deploy in support of persons reported in the river close to West Tanfield. North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service had requested our water team assets to support a search for a missing canoeist who had entered the water close to Slenningford Weir. A multi agency response was implemented with assets from Fire, Ambulance, Police, Mountain rescue, Air Ambulance, Coast Guard helicopter and York Rescue Boat. Unfortunately a body was spotted by the Coast Guard and recovery from the river. Our thoughts go out to the family and friends at this sad time.
