Surface Rescues

Surface rescues can vary significantly in their complexity from a relatively simple assisted walk off the hill of a person with minor injuries, to a short stretcher carry to receiving ambulance at the roadside.  Even these simple incidents can be more problematic if they occur at a remote or difficult to access location.

In these more complex situations the teams specialist equipment and highly trained members can be deployed to utilise their technical ropework and rigging skills.

To bring casualties more rapidly to definitive hospital care the team is trained to work with both civilian air ambulances and military rescue helicoptors from the RAF Rescue Flights based at either Boulmer or Leaconfield .

Rescues can involve a cross section of people who work and play in the region; from a farmers quad bike crash to a fallen mountain biker, to the easily misplaced foot resulting in a broken ankle.
